*************************************** Learning outcomes of the Master Science Degree in Energy Engineering and description of the educational training The Master Science Degree in Energy Engineering is characterized by an educational training focused on the in-depth analysis of the current scientific and technological knowledge in several engineering fields, such as the energy production, transportation and use, in order to optimize the exploitation of natural resources without compromising the environment, at both small and large scale. The aim is that of developing competencies in the so-called 'Intelligent Energy' sector, term also used by the European Commission: - mastery in theoretical and scientific aspects of the basic engineering disciplines, especially those concerning energy engineering, such as the analysis of power plants fed by fossil or renewable energy sources; - advanced engineering skills regarding sustainable energy technologies for the generation, transmission, distribution and use of electrical and thermal energy, in the industrial, tertiary and residential sectors (including “energy saving” in buildings); - expertise in renewable energy technologies (hydro, geothermal, solar, wind, biomass, biofuels, etc.) and energy from waste: state of the art of the technology, economic and environmental aspects, investment analysis, availably/flexibility/reliability of components, operating costs and legislation; - expertise in power plant emissions control and emission abatement systems for fossil fuel fired power plants, technical knowledge of technologies for CO2 emission reduction; - basic knowledge of: electrical engineering, power systems engineering, chemical processes, environmental control and monitoring systems, industrial instrumentation, economic and management methods, life cycle assessment, etc.
************************************** Final dissertation The final test consists in the presentation and discussion, in front of the designated Degree Commission, of the activities carried out during the development of the thesis.
