The module provides the fundamentals of chemistry and physics to approach solid-state electronic devices. It introduces physical structure, modes of operation and models of devices such as diodes, MOSFETs and BJTs, as well as integrated circuit (IC) fabrication technologies. An overview of power devices based on compound semiconductors such as GaN and SiC will be provided.

The module introduces relevant CMOS analog circuit topologies. It delves into circuit analysis, feedback circuit characteristics, reference, output stages, and data converter principles. Students will learn to analyze and design amplification stages  using professional CAD tools.

This subject will enable the student to understand the working principles of sensing systems. The teaching form combines lectures and lab activities. Lectures provide the basic knowledge about different sensors and the sensing mechanism driving their design. Lab activities stimulate the students to learn how to develop a sensing system.

The module provides theoretical and practical foundations of machine learning paradigms: linear models, decision trees, random forests, and deep neural networks. Students learn to select the most suitable solutions, considering the memory and computational power constrains of the target electronic system. This prepares them to design solutions for real-world problems, such as data processing near sensors.

The module introduces to analysis and design of cyberphysical systems: modelling, simulation and formal verification of synchronous, asynchronous, continuous-time dynamic, timed and hybrid electronic systems, considering safety and liveness requirements. It also introduces to firmware on microcontroller-based systems. The student will develop analytical and design skills through a simple project.

The unit aims to provide skills on electromagnetic radiation and related devices, propagation in the presence of complex structures and basic principles of electromagnetic compatibility. These topics are discussed both from a theoretical point of view and with reference to applicative examples.

This subject introduces architectures of next-generation mobile communication systems based on software-defined and cognitive radio exploiting interaction between sensing and communications. The subject provides basic knowledge for co-design of sensing and communication, processing heterogeneous multisensory signals acquired by autonomous systems, and approaches for jammer and anomaly detection.

114768 SIGNAL PROCESSING IN ROBOTICS ING-IND/31 5 5 CFU A SCELTA A Scelta dello Studente
This subject aims to provide basic elements for the design and synthesis of analog and digital filters. One half of the lectures is given in laboratory, where the students are driven to design, simulate, implement and test different kinds of filters, by using tools such as PSPICE, MATLAB and laboratory equipment.
